YOUTHWORK - Child & Family Services. A unique program designed to develop young people and their communities by completing critical projects for nonprofits and government agencies in northern and central Michigan, such as planting trees, building boardwalks, or removing invasive species, to wildlife conservation, preserving historic buildings, trail development, and more. Youth receive hands-on experience and tackle local and global challenges while they earn a living stipend, scholarships, and 21st century job skills. We all benefit from YouthWork AmeriCorps!

Apprenticeships come in various forms, but usually involve on the job training as well as some classroom training. Apprenticeships look very different depending on the profession. Training Programs for Individuals Who Are Blind or Low-Vision - The Bureau of Services for Blind Persons Training Center (BSBPTC) is a comprehensive rehabilitative center, specializing in assisting youth and adults who are blind and low vision. Training Center staff work to provide customized training and employment services to help participants address challenges that may pose barriers to achieving their goals. The BSBPTC is open year round and has accommodations for up to twenty-nine students in twenty-seven private rooms and two training apartments. In order to look up specific training/certification/schooling options, search the local trades union for the trade you are considering and see what programs/apprenticeships are available. This is usually pretty visible on their website but if not there are numbers for you to call. The sites below are examples of union sites for millwrights and carpenters, electricians, pipe fitters and heavy equipment operators.
