Lake City Area Schools is proud of our Portrait of a Learner and Portrait of an Educator. These both are clear, community-informed visions that define the skills, mindsets, and dispositions we believe every student and every staff member should embody to thrive in an ever-changing world.

These portraits were developed through thoughtful collaboration with staff, students, families, and community partners. Together, they provide a shared roadmap for what teaching and learning should look like in Lake City, both today and in the years ahead. Most importantly, these portraits will guide and inform all of our critical conversations and decision-making, from instruction and school culture to college and career readiness, professional development, and community engagement. They give us a common language and vision for preparing students for life beyond the classroom.

Our Portrait of a Learner outlines the competencies we aim to cultivate in every student—from critical thinking and communication to resilience, empathy, and real-world readiness.

Our Portrait of an Educator reflects the professional characteristics we value in all staff, not just classroom teachers. Every adult in our district plays a vital role in shaping students’ experiences, and these traits highlight the commitment to growth, collaboration, innovation, and being true champions for learners across every position.
